How to Grow Delicately Blooming Lilacs

Lilacs are the best flower in the spring or summer since they have a nice fragrance and they can brighten your garden. There are different colors of lilacs and they can bloom for around 6 weeks.  Not only they come in different colors, but they can also attract butterflies and hummingbirds to make your garden more alive.

It is not that hard to grow lilacs, but sometimes the lilacs cannot bloom perfectly. There are some steps that you can do to grow the lilacs as well as make them grow and bloom in their full size.

What you need:

  • Lilacs
  • Shovel
  • Compost

Steps:

Step 1. Prepare the lilacs you want to plant. Make sure that the lilacs are small enough and they haven’t got the leaves. If they do, you might not get the perfect blooming lilacs.

Step 2. Dig the hole for the lilacs. Make sure that the hole is deep enough and has a bigger width for the lilacs’ root ball. Also, you need to choose a neutral to alkaline soil with pH near 7.0 to make the lilacs grow perfectly in the dry periods.

Take the soil from the hole and mix it with the compost to enrich and give the nutrition to the lilacs.

Step 3. Take the lilac bush and remove the soil on the root ball. Unravel the roots.

Step 4. Place the root ball into the hole.

Step 5. Cover the root ball with the previous soil and compost mixture.

Tips

  • Make sure that you choose the best place for the lilacs with good sunlight for at least 6 hours a day. If you don’t choose the best place to grow the lilacs, they won’t bloom well.
  • Don’t water the lilacs too much to avoid it become rotten. Make sure the site has a good drain.
  • If you want to grow multiple lilacs in your garden, make sure you give a little space for about 5 to 15 feet apart to make it grow well.
  • If your lilacs don’t bloom well, check whether they are infected with pests or disease or not. You can easily see the insects on the tree and to anticipate this, you need to do the pruning. It will trigger the new growth and the lilacs will bloom in the next season.
  • Place a layer of compost and mulch to moisture the lilacs. Pay attention to the weeds to avoid your lilacs getting infected.
  • Water the lilacs regularly every week in the summer.
  • You need to prune the lilacs after they bloom in the spring and remove the dead woods. To get the better blooming, you can prune the lilacs when the flower clusters become smaller.
  • If you want to get better blooming, you need to grow the grass around the lilacs.
  • If your lilacs are too old, you can still make them bloom by removing the old woods. You need to do a pruning on the tree and after 2 to 3 years, your lilacs will bloom perfectly.
